About Us
Deirdre Leighton currently lives in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and is a registered Advanced Reiki Practitioner with the
Canadian Reiki Association working towards becoming a Reiki Master.
Reiki is pronounced "ray - key" a Japanese word meaning Universal Life
Energy. This is the energy of and in every living thing from animals and
plants to people. Iti is your 'Life Force Energy' that flows around and
through you in a field of energy called your Aura.
When your Life Force Energy is low or blocked you are more vulnerable
to sickness and disease. When your Life Force Energy flows freely you
are less likely to become ill. This Life Force Energy also plays an important
role in all that we do emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually. Thus
being in balance brings balance to our day to day routines and life.
Reiki is spiritual in nature yet it is not a religion. Reiki is not dependent on belief and will work if you believe in it or not. It has been a hands on healing technique for thousands of years. And was only rediscouvered in the 1800's by Dr. Mikao Usui when he was given the healing symbols and gift through days of meditation. It is believed that Jesus Christ used these same techniques of healing, thus the term redisouvered is used when discussing and describing Reiki to others.
Reiki's Life Force Energy is a channeled healing energy guided by the Higher Power or God's Consciousness, the Universe. A very important aspect of how Reiki is different from other healing practices. A Reiki practitioner understands that it is the Divine Guidance which assists them and that the Reiki energy will know exactly where it is to go.
It is a powerful yet gentle energy that flows through all effected parts of any energy field; animal, plant or person. It charges these energy fields with a positive universal energy - clearing and healing ones energy pathways allowing your Life Force Energy to flow naturally. Reiki knows exactly where to go.
Because Reiki works subtly it can greatly improve medical treatments, actively reducing negative side effects, and can shorten healing time. It is known to help reduce or eliminate pain, reduce stress and help create optimism. Reiki is always beneficial and can never do harm. It has an intelligence of it's own, always knowing a receivers needs and will automatically adjust to meet those needs. Creating the appropriate effect for each individual it is used on.
Reiki treatments can be also delivered to pets and animals. These treatments are best given in person while in the family home or place of residence of the animal. Deirdre believes that animals having treatments in their own homes is more relaxing for the animals thus allowing them to receive these treatments much more successfully. While Deirdre has found that most animals enjoy 'hands-on' treatments, others prefer a 'no contact' treatment. Deirdre will discuss with you (the owner) and ask the participant (animal) which they would prefer. Whether Reiki is given directly, hands-on, or from a distance; the treatments are equally effective, as Reiki energy knows exactly where to go.

Other Interests: Deirdre has been fascinated with the healing powers of the Ancients, she is currently studying the Munay-Ki Rites. She believes we all have the power within us to not only heal ourselves but also to heal the World. As Dr. Alberto Villoldo writes in Shaman, Healer, Sage "...Through these fibers of light the wisdom and teachings of time past and future flow." We are learning today so much of the healing powers of the past the Mystery Schools of the Ancients and we are now recognizing them to be powerful lessons for our future.
